Jodie Vaughn's journey of service began at a young age as a preacher's kid in Lynchburg, VA, where her parents pastored a church. At just 10 years old, Jodie started raising funds by selling donuts every Saturday, earning her the nickname "donut girl." For nearly a decade, rain or shine, Jodie embarked on her donut route promptly at 8 am, accompanied by her father in the beloved green church van.
While the pigtails may have added to her charm, Jodie's heart was deeply touched when she realized that the proceeds from her donut sales were used to support a greater cause. The funds assisted in filling the church's food pantry, providing clothing, shoes, essentials, and hosting displaced families.
Inspired by her parents' example of service, Jodie continued to serve her local church and community alongside her husband Greg for over 20 years. They volunteered in various capacities, including VBS, giving campaigns, and missions trips. Leading the Annual Helping Hands Campaign for single parents, they provided food, gifts, and essentials, demonstrating their commitment to making a difference in their community.
Despite Northern Virginia's affluent reputation, Jodie and Greg recognized that there were still unmet needs in the area. They served local neighborhoods with warm meals, clothing, and essentials, while also investing love and hope into the hearts of those they encountered.
Driven by their vision to partner with compassionate volunteers and facilitate essential donations, Jodie and Greg founded By Faith Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact wherever they can. Their hope is to continue serving their community and spreading kindness and support to those in need.
Greg's passion for serving others traces back to his upbringing in a military family and his 11 years of service in the US Army. Having lived in various countries, he gained firsthand insight into the global need for lending a helping hand.
One impactful moment occurred during Greg's time in Germany, where he witnessed a man rummaging through garbage to feed his family. This experience left a profound mark on him, fostering a deep awareness of the needs around him and igniting his compassion for others.
Another influential figure in Greg's life was his mother, who frequently held yard sales not for profit, but as a means of giving back to the community. Through her actions, Greg learned the value of generosity and kindness, realizing that it was about more than just material possessions—it was about offering hope to those in need.
For over two decades, Greg has served alongside his wife Jodie in their local church, engaging in various volunteer activities such as organizing young adult gatherings, youth outings, and charity events. Their commitment to giving back extends beyond their community, as they have also participated in international missions trips to countries like Ghana and Lithuania.
During these missions trips, Greg and Jodie worked on initiatives such as raising funds for an orphanage in Ghana and visiting children's hospitals and hosting benefit concerts in Lithuania. These experiences have been profoundly transformative for them, reinforcing their desire to inspire others to sow seeds of generosity and compassion By Faith.
